The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) is a non-university research institute under public law of the state of Berlin. ZIB conducts research and development in the field of information technology, applied mathematics, and computer science focusing on modeling, simulation and optimization with scientific cooperation partners from academia and industry.

The division Mathematics for Life and Materials Sciences (research group Therapy Planning) is offering within the Modal:MedLab project a position as

PhD Student Pay grade E 13 TV-L Berlin (100%) (m/f)
or
PostDoc Pay grade E 14 TV-L Berlin (100%) (m/f)

The position is to be filled at 1st February or March, 2015 under a fixed-term contract for two years with the option to be extended.

Research Topics:

  • Research in medical image and geometry processing
  • Development of algorithms for image segmentation
  • Development of shape and intensity models for anatomical structures
  • Test and validation based on medical image data from various applications  

Requirements:

  • Above average university degree in mathematics, natural or computer sciences
  • Excellent knowledge in computer vision, image processing, geometric modeling, or machine learning
  • Profound knowledge in object oriented software development as well as programming skills in C++
  • Strong interest in application oriented research & development within the area of medical image processing
  • Interest in developing efficient algorithms also considering GPGPU programming
  • Ability to communicative cooperation, both within a project group as well as with industry partners
  • Ability to work independently and goal-oriented
  • Very good communication skills in English
